ABT/ — About

Small, on purpose.

BLR Code is an independent consultancy based in Bengaluru. It is deliberately small — which is a positioning, not a stage we're hoping to grow out of.

Why small is the point

The standard consultancy model separates the people who sell the work from the people who do it. You meet a senior person, sign, and then work with whoever is on the bench — and every question travels through someone whose job is scheduling rather than engineering.

Here the person who scopes the work does the work. Nothing is subcontracted behind an account manager, nobody rotates off your project at the end of a quarter, and when you ask why a decision was made, you are asking the person who made it.

The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: we cannot field ten engineers next month. If that is what you need, a larger firm genuinely is the better answer and we will say so early rather than take the engagement and stretch.

What we do

Two kinds of work that share a standard but little else. For companies abroad: retained engineering, cloud and platform work, network architecture — remote, on your process, on hours that overlap yours.

For businesses here in Bengaluru: the network, the Wi-Fi, the backups, the email and the support that an office actually runs on — designed, configured and supported remotely.

The overlap is more useful than it sounds. Small business networks benefit from being designed by someone who also runs production infrastructure, and production infrastructure benefits from someone who has had to explain a decision to a business owner in plain language.

BEL/ — What we believe

Opinions, held honestly.

Boring is a virtue
Widely used, well-documented technology beats interesting technology. The question is not what is best today — it is what you or your next contractor can support in three years. That usually rules out the exciting answer, and we will argue for the dull one.
Smaller is usually right
Most systems that get built are larger than the problem requires. We have replaced a five-container platform with one container and been better off. Choosing the smaller thing is harder to justify and usually correct.
Documented or it doesn't exist
Every engagement leaves diagrams, decisions with their reasoning, and credentials in your possession. Being difficult to replace is not a business strategy we are interested in.
No margin on hardware
We do not resell equipment. You buy directly at market price. It costs us a revenue line and it means our recommendations can be taken at face value, which is worth more.
Say when it's a bad idea
Including when the good advice is "you don't need us for this." We have talked people out of projects, and out of features — including one of our own that we built and then deleted.
Silence means success
Systems we run alert on failure only. A channel full of routine green notifications is a channel nobody reads on the day it matters.
